Message: Share your life with Jesus

Bible verse: Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)

I’ve been watching Coke commercials for decades. I remember a brilliant one with a huge, plastic beach ball floating on the ocean with people inside the ball!

And this was long before the days of computer aided graphics. It was real! And people really were sliding around inside it, falling and laughing and shouting and slapping each other on the back as they floated over the waves; great looking, happy people. And then, I guess, after the end of the shoot, they all went their separate ways. After all, it was a paid gig.

That’s the thing about Coke. It’s manufactured. And everything it does is well... manufactured. Manufactured sugar water, manufactured fizz. For more than a hundred years Coke has been manufacturing a promise.

And the promise is that if you drink Coke then you’ll have a rich and wonderful experience of life with gorgeous, popular people right at the centre of the crowd.

One deep insight that Coke has understood really well is that we love to eat and drink with each other. We say: “Hey, let’s catch up for coffee” or “Let’s ‘do’ lunch”. So Coke ads almost always show people sharing great experiences.

You see, when you break bread with someone you’re sharing a profound experience. It’s as basic as surviving together. But it’s much more. There’s the delight in taste, texture and presentation, and, when someone provides a meal, all the excitement and expectations that surround the giving and receiving of gifts also come into play.

The creator of the universe knows about the goodness of sharing. He’s shared his creation with us. Jesus spoke often about heaven as a place where people would delight in eating with each other. In fact, he described Heaven as a banquet with God as the host. After his resurrection Jesus spoke these words through the prophet John:

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

This is a clear and genuine offer from the manufacturer of everything. And Jesus is knocking... he wants to share himself with you! A Christian is someone who has asked God to forgive their old life and who lives with Jesus in charge of their new life. You could start sharing your new life with Jesus today. And forever. It’s as easy as starting to pray and listening to God in the Bible.

Prayer: Dear God, please give me an appetite to know you and share my life with you through Jesus.
